Map Skills & Compass Directions ~ Coding Unplugged Challenge ~ STEM
This coding unplugged activity is one of many that I am creating to use in my STEM classroom! We do these coding challenges about once a week. They are great for teaching sequencing and logical reasoning to students. There are no right or wrong answers, and many different solutions will work! You could also rotate these challenges through a science center. I store everything in a dollar store gift bag or plastic tub for each individual coding unplugged challenge.

These 3 activities focus on writing code using paper and pencil. Coding is a great critical thinking activity because the students have to position themselves on the map and move by holding their place in their mind. These activities can be extended to procedural writing activities. Write code and then explain your steps. "First, I left the zoo and turned East.
